Playing outside encourages children to respect nature, the environment and helps provide some good old fashioned exercise. Flying Colours Nursery is lucky to benefit from our amazing garden with excellent resources and we encourage staff and children to create activities that utilise the excellent resources. But you don’t need to have a big garden or equipment to enjoy the great outdoors. Here are some activities you can do at home to bring the outside in and vice versa.
Why not collect some leaves on your walk home and capture the beautiful details by putting a sheet of paper over the top and rubbing a crayon over it! You could also create an autumn tree collage with the leaves and objects you found outside.
Edinburgh is home to some amazing free parks where children can explore and enjoy seeing the leaves change colour and fall to the ground. You can also experience the beautiful foliage that Scotland has to offer.
To create your own sensory toys, collect some used bottles and wash them out with warm soapy water. Collect items from outside such as acorns, leaves and flowers - the more colourful and noisy the better! Finally, fill the bottles with your items to create some nature sensory bottles to shake and experience!
Always Remember - There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
